Natalie Portman is the first person born in the 1980s to have won the Academy Award for Best Actress (for Black Swan (2010)).Natalie was born Natalie Hershlag on June 9 1981 in Jerusalem, Israel. Her parents are Avner Hershlag (an Israeli-born physician) and Shelley Stevens (an American-born artist born in Cincinnati, Ohio), who serve as Natalie's agent. Both of her parents are Ashkenazi Jewish. Natalie's family emigrated from Israel in search of Washington, D.C., while she was young. Her family relocated several times before they settled in New York. She still lives in New York to this day. Her academic accomplishments allowed her to enroll at Harvard University. She graduated with high honors. She was found by an agent at a pizza parlor at eleven years old. At 11 years old she was urged to pursue a career as a model, however she eventually decided she wanted to become an actor. While she appeared in a variety of live performances, Leon: The Professional (1994) (also known as "Leon") marked her debut in film. Following this role Natalie won roles in such films such as Heat (1995), Beautiful Girls (1996), and Mars Attacks! (1996).
