Jordan Ross Belfort, an American motivational speaker and author, is a former stockbroker. Born in New York, Belfort was blessed with the talent of a successful salesman at a very young age. He started out as a stockbroker and made millions of dollars in illegal ways in the 90s through 'Stratton' Oakmont,' an investment company which he owned. Jordan could not resist the pressure of police agencies and eventually admitted to committing fraud against investors and other charges related to manipulation of the market. He also pleaded guilty for running a boiler room as part of the 'penny stock scam. He was sentenced to 22 months in prison. He testified against his subordinates as well as partners in the scam. Belfort has since altered his ways and now delivers motivational speeches. His first speeches focused mainly on motivation and ethics. The focus later changed on selling and entrepreneurship. In his talks, he emphasizes the importance of ethics in playing an important role in running a successful business , and how to avoid mistakes that occurred in his professional career as an agent.
