Jon Jones

Jonathan Dwight Jones, a mixed martial artist hailing from America, has twice won the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Jones is widely recognized as one of the top mixed martial artists of all time However, his tragic past has turned him into a cautionary tale. Jones was raised in New York by a middle-class family. His life has been strongly influenced and shaped by religion from his early years. Jones was a prodigious wrestler during his youth and was awarded the state championship in Union-Endicott High School in upstate New York. He also played football as a defensive lineman. Jones initially planned to study criminal justice but then his MMA career began to take off. He dropped out college to make a move into professional MMA. He made his professional debut in April of 2008 against Brad Bernard, a match which he won via technical knockout. Jones has won a majority of his matches over a 10 year career. His one loss was due to an unreliable decision by a referee. Jones has won the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship twice but was stripped of his title each time. The first time was he stripped because of a hit-and-run incident in the year 2015. Doping violations also led to him losing his interim title. He was recently stripped of the interim title following a positive test for doping in 2017. The investigation is being conducted and, if Jones is found guilty, he could find himself facing a four-year prison sentence.
