Zoe Saldana was born June 19th, 1978 in Passaic (New Jersey) to Asalia Nazario, and Aridio Saldana. Her father is Dominican as was her mother, while her father Puerto Rican. Her birthplace was Queens, New York. When she was 10 years old her family and she relocated to the Dominican Republic, where they were to stay for the next seven years. Zoe developed a passion for dancing while in the Dominican Republic. She started her training at the renowned ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy in which she was taught ballet as well as other types of dance. The training offered a wonderful outlet for the energetic youngster, and it was also a great start to her professional acting career. At age 17, Zoe and her family returned to the United States where her love for dancing grew and her desire to perform in the theater grew greater.
