 Scarlett Ingrid Johansson was born on the 22nd of November 1984 in Manhattan, New York City, New York. Her mother, Melanie Sloan is from a Jewish family in the Bronx and her father, Karsten Johansson is a Danish-born architect from Copenhagen. She is the sister of Vanessa Johansson who is an actress. The younger brother of her, Adrian Johansson was born three minutes later. Hunter Johansson is a twin brother and her paternal half-brother Christian Johansson was a Danish-born architect from Copenhagen. Her grandfather was a writer Ejner Johansson.Johansson began acting in childhood, after her mother began taking her to auditions. At eight years old, she made her debut as an actor in "Sophistry", an off-Broadway musical starring Ethan Hawke at New York's Playwrights Horizons. While she often auditioned for commercials, her mother started making her films more difficult to audition for due to her inability to accept rejections. At nine years old, she made her film debut as John Ritter’s daughter in North (1994).
