Natalie Portman was born Natalie Hershlag in Jerusalem, Israel on June 9 in 1981. Her parents are Avner Hershlag (an Israeli doctor) and Shelley Stevens (an American-born artist who hails from Cincinnati, Ohio), who serve as Natalie's agent. Both parents are Ashkenazi Jewish. Natalie's family left Israel to go to Washington, D.C., at a time when she was young. After several more moves the family eventually settled in New York, where she continues to live to the present day. The academic accomplishments of her allowed her to attend Harvard University. She graduated with high honors. She was spotted by an agent at an eatery in the age of 11. At the age of 11 she was urged to pursue a career as a model, but she decided she wanted to be an actor. While she appeared in a variety of live performances and on film, her debut film was made in Leon: The Professional (1994) Also called "Leon". In the following years, Natalie won roles in such films such as Heat (1995), Beautiful Girls (1996), and Mars Attacks! (1996).
