Amy Jean Klobuchar ('kloUb@Sa' or KLO is an American politician and lawyer who has served as the top United States senator for Minnesota since 2007. A member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), Minnesota's affiliate of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney of Hennepin County.Born in Plymouth, Minnesota, Klobuchar graduated from Yale University and the University of Chicago Law School. Before she became the county attorney for Hennepin County she was a partner at two Minneapolis law firms. She is the person in charge of the entire criminal justice system in Minnesota's most populous county. Klobuchar was elected first to the Senate in 2006, succeeding Mark Dayton to become Minnesota's first female elected United States senator. Klobuchar was reelected in a landslide in 2012, winning nearly all of the state's 87 counties. Klobuchar was elected again in 2018.In 2009 and the year 2010, she was described as an "rising star" within the Democratic Party.Klobuchar's policy positions are in line with modern liberalism. Her primary focus is the reform of healthcare as well as consumer protection and climate change. Her Midwestern charm and ability to prevail in rural Minnesota are what make her stand out.
