Joseph Walsh's work is the result of his passion for expression through form and material. From huge-scale sculptures to one-of-a-kind designs and site-specific editions, each piece of his dynamic body of work reveals an intuitive relationship with making, a thoughtful use of materials, and an expressive involvement with form.Inspired by the free flowing, inspiring and constantly changing elegance that can be seen in nature, Joseph Walsh has developed an innovative process of creation that takes the spontaneity and dynamism of sketching out a design - the moment of inspiration - and in which the final design is defined through its making.Joseph Walsh was born in 1979 in County Cork on the south coast of Ireland where he established his own workshop and studio at the age of 20 and is still based in the present. He did not have formal education and began to discover his passion to create. He toured master woodworkers in Europe and gained his own knowledge and mastery of the material. He was a pioneer in the development of new techniques for making, usually employing traditional techniques that were used in other crafts, and he continued to do so until the end. This led to important early commissions for a variety of ecclesiastical customers, including the Embassy of Japan as well as the National Museum of Ireland.
