 Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born on February 5, 1985, in Madeira, Portugal to Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro and Jose Diniz Aveiro. Cristiano is the elder brother of Hugo, and has two older sisters named Elma Catia and Liliana Catia. The name of his birth was inspired by the former president of the United States, Ronald Reagan, whom his father was greatly influenced by.The island of Madeira was also the place in which Cristiano began to develop his football skills. His early years were played for Nacional, his local football team. When he was 12 he was already an established Madeira player. He was soon recognized by other top Portuguese clubs. Among Sporting was Benfica, one of the teams Cristiano and his father admired as a young boy. He eventually decided to join Sporting that was the team that his mother was a fan of and followed when she was growing up and playing with players like Figo was the dream for her son.
