American comedian and actor Bill Murray. He is the fifth of a family of nine. He was born to Lucille Murray (a mailroom clerk) and Edward Joseph Murray II (a lumber dealer). He is of Irish origin. His siblings include actors Joel Murray, Brian Doyle-Murray and John Murray. The tuition for Loyola Academy was paid by the caddies. He worked with most of his siblings as caddies. While he was at that school, he participated in athletics and did some acting however, he claimed that a lot of his fellow students "screwed off". He attended Regis College in Denver to learn pre-med, but dropped out when he was detained for possession of marijuana. With Gilda Radner and John Belushi, he joined the National Lampoon Radio Hour. He joined Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell (1975) in the same year that the year he was born. After the show's failure, he later got the opportunity to be a part of Saturday Night Live (1975), for which he earned his first Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy-Variety or a Music Show. In the following years, he would star in comedy films like Meatballs (1979), Caddyshack (80), Stripes(82), Tootsie (1982), Ghostbusters (84), Ghostbusters II (289), Scrooged (1988), and what About Bob? (1991), as well as Groundhog Day (1993)
