Ken-Burns

The U.S. and the Holocaust is a new series with three parts that lasts six hours and examines the American response in one of the most devastating humanitarian crises of our times. The show was created by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick, and Sarah Botstein. The series will air on September 18th, 19th and 20th from 8-10 p.m. ET (check local listings) on PBS stations, and all three episodes will be available for streaming the night of premiere on PBS.org as well as the PBS Video app. The film was partly inspired by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s "Americans and the Holocaust” exhibition and will be streamed live on PBS.org as well as the PBS Video app. The book, written by Geoffrey Ward, sheds light on what the U.S. government as well as the American people were aware of and how they acted during the time of the Holocaust throughout Europe.Combining the first-person stories of Holocaust survivors and witnesses, as well as interviews with leading historians and writers, THE U.S. and the Holocaust will dispel the myths that Americans are either ignorant of the horrific persecution Jews and other minorities who were targeted endured in Europe or were oblivious to the situation. The film tackles a range of issues that are vital to the modern world such as how racism impacts the policies that govern immigration and refugees as in how governments and people react to the rise of dictatorial states which manipulate history and the facts to gain power.
