Steve Martin is a multiple award winning American comedian, actor and writer who initially gained notice as a writer for the 'Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour'. He began his career as a stand-up comedian , and did his routines at local clubs. He eventually ventured into television and made his debut on the 'The Steve Allen Show' following which he also appeared on 'The Virginia Graham Show'. Having made a successful foray into television he achieved much recognition in the 1970s, and appeared on a variety of shows. Following his appearance on NBC's Saturday Night Live (SNL) and his subsequent appearance on SNL, he became famous and invited to host the show 15 times. Steve Martin's comedy album"A Wild and Crazy Guy', were even more popular. The album was double platinum and ranked 2 on Billboard's Pop Albums Chart. He had a large fan base and realized that the right time was now to venture into film. His first major film role was in a short filmcalled 'The Absent-Minded Waiter', which was nominated for an Academy Award nomination. He is an actor and comedian and a musician. His love for the banjo is well known.
