Martin Scorsese

 Martin Charles Scorsese was a New York City native, born to Catherine Scorsese (nee Cappa) and Charles Scorsese. They both worked in Manhattan's garment industry and their families were both born in Palermo in Sicily. He grew up in the neighborhood of Little Italy, which later provided the inspiration for several of his movies. Scorsese received a B.S. degree in film communications in 1964. This was following by an M.A. He earned his diploma in film communications in 1964. Then he earned the M.A. in the year 1966 from New York University's School of Film. At the period, he produced a number of award-winning short films, like The Big Shave (1967) and also directed his first feature film, Who's That Knocking at My Door (1967)He served as the assistant director and editor on the documentary Woodstock (1970) and won praise from the public and critics for Mean Streets (1973), which first paired him with actor and frequent collaborator Robert De Niro. In 1976 Scorsese's Taxi Driver (1976), featuring De Niro was awarded the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and he then followed it up by releasing New York, New York (1977) and The Last Waltz (1978). Scorsese directed De Niro's Oscar-winning performance Raging Bull (1980). It was awarded eight Academy Award nominations including Best Picture and Best Director. The film is regarded as one of the greatest movies of the modern cinema.
