American actor, director and singer Kevin Michael Costner is best known for his portrayal of complicated characters and rough personality. He was born to middle-class parents. Although he attended various schools to complete his studies, he was never drawn to the academics. He took more interest in sports and artistic activities, such as playing the piano and writing poems. Kevin Costner, who graduated from Fullerton's business school, took up a job in marketing despite wanting to pursue acting. After an unintentional meeting with actor Richard Burton, who encouraged him to pursue acting as a career, Costner started taking acting classes and took on various jobs to support his family. After appearing in cameos and minor roles in some of his first films, he was a part of the 1987 movie The Untouchables which proved to be the turning point for his career. It was followed by breakthrough performances in films, including No Way Out, Bull Durham and Field of Dreams, all that established his stature as an actor with star status. He made himself known later on as a great producer and director with Dances with Wolves, his epic Western war film. It was awarded the Academy Award in Best Picture and also won the Academy Award to Best Director.
