Karen Gillan

 Karen Sheila Gillan was born and raised in Inverness, Scotland, as the sole daughter of Marie Paterson and husband John Gillan, who is a singer and recording artist. She discovered a passion for acting very early on and was a part of several theatre groups and participating in a wide range of shows at her school the Charleston Academy.At the age of 16, Karen decided she wanted to take her acting career to the next level and began studying under famous director of theatre Scott Johnston at the Performing Arts Studio Scotland. In the following years she was accepted into the Italia Conti Academy in London. The first year of her studies, she landed a role in the show Rebus (2000) and soon appeared in a variety of programs , including Channel 4's Stacked (2008) and The Kevin Bishop Show (2008) and two years on the long-running TV series Doctor Who (2005). Karen stars alongside James Nesbitt in Outcast (2010). Her most recent role is as Eliza Dooley on the situation comedy Selfie (2014).
