 In 1976, you had told fourteen-year-old Franciscan seminary student Thomas Cruise Mapother IV that one day in the near future he would be Tom Cruise, one of the most famous film actors of the past, he would likely have smiled and said that his ambition was to enter the priesthood. However, this sensitive young man, who was deeply religious, born in 1962 in Syracuse, New York, was set to become one of the highest paid and most sought-after actors in film history.Tom is the sole son (among four children) of nomad parents, Mary Lee (Pfeiffer), who was a special education teacher as well as Thomas Cruise Mapother III, an electrical engineer. Both of his parents hail from Louisville, Kentucky. He also has German, Irish and English ancestry. The young Tom spent his boyhood always moving around until when he was 14 years old, he had attended fifteen different schools in the U.S. and Canada. With his mom and his new partner, he settled in Glen Ridge. When he was in high school Tom wanted to become a priest but pretty soon he began to develop an interest in acting. He resigned from his dream to become a priest. He quit school, and when he was 18, he left towards New York and a possible acting career. The next fifteen years of his life are the stories of legends. His first film appearance was in Endless Love (1981), an unassuming role he played. He instantly demonstrated the appeal of his film to both female and male audiences.
