Hugh Michael Jackman is an Australian actor, singer, multi-instrumentalist, dancer and producer. Jackman has received worldwide recognition for his roles in major films, most notably as superhero, period, and romantic characters. The most popular of these roles is his role as Wolverine, in the X-Men film series. He also has roles in romantic-comedy drama Kate & Leopold (2004), the action-horror drama Van Helsing (2004) and The Fountain (2006). He was also a part of the epic romantic drama of the past called Australia (2008). He was also the director of Les Miserables (2012) and Prisoners (2013). His performance in Les Miserables earned Jackman his first Academy Award nomination as Best Actor as well as his first Golden Globe Award as Best Actor for Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. In Broadway theatre, Jackman won a Tony Award for his performance in The Boy from Oz. A four-time host of the Tony Awards themselves, he won an Emmy Award for one of these appearances. Jackman was host of the Academy Awards 81 on 22 February 2009.
