Francine Joy Drescher better called Fran Drescher is an American actor, comedian as well as a writer and activist. Her character in the role of Fran on the TV series 'TheNanny, between 1993 and 1999 was her most well-known role. She is also famous for her distinct New York accent and nasal voice. Following her debut on screen with a minor role in the film 'Saturday Night Fever' she was a part of "American Hot Wax" as well as Wes Craven's spooky tale "Stranger in Our Home" in 1978. She began her TV career with guest appearances in various series, while simultaneously getting recognition for films like 'Gorp The Hollywood Knights,' 'Doctor Detroit,' 'This is Spinal Tap,' and 'UHF. But she was famous when she appeared as "Fran Fine-Sheffield" on her own sitcom The Nanny, in which she received nominations for two Emmy Awards' as well as a Golden Globe' each in the "Best Actress in the field of Comedy Television Series' category, during the show's run. She is a survivor of uterine cancer and an activist for LGBT rights. She is also well-known for her role as an envoy of public diplomacy for issues affecting women's health at the US State Department. She is currently living in Malibu, California, following her divorce from producer and writer Peter Marc Jacobson.
