Bob Dylan

Robert Allen Zimmerman was born on the 24th of May 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota; his father Abe was employed by the Standard Oil Co. Six years later, the family relocated to Hibbing which is often the coldest area in the US and where he began teaching himself guitar and piano, and formed several high school rock bands. In 1959 he entered the University of Minnesota and began playing in the role of Bob Dylan at clubs in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The following year he went to New York, performed in Greenwich Village folk clubs, and spent time in the hospital of his idol Woody Guthrie. The year ended in 1961 when Columbia signed the singer to a contract, and in the year following, he released his debut album with two songs that were his own creations. Next year "The Freewheelin Bob Dylan" was released, featuring all original songs including the 1960s' classic "Blowin' in the Wind." Following a number of other important acoustic/folk albums, and tours with Joan Baez, he launched into a new form of electric/acoustic in 1965 with "Bringing It All Back Home" which, together with The Byrds' cover of the song "Mr Tambourine Man,"" launched folk-rock. At this time, the documentary Bob Dylan: Never Look back (1967), was shot. He ended his relationship with Joan Baez and had already married Sara Dylan (born Sara Lowndes) at the time of his death. He almost died in a crash with a motorcycle on the 29th July of 1966. Then he retreated to reflect. Then he returned to the hard rock scene and performed more.
