 Beyonce in full Beyonce Giselle Knowles (born September 4 1981 in Houston, Texas, U.S.), American singer, songwriter and actress who gained fame in the 1990s as the vocalist of the R&B group Destiny's Child and then launched her own highly successful solo career.At the age of nine Beyonce began the group of girls who sang and rapped Destiny's Child (originally called Girl's Tyme) in 1990 , along with childhood friends. The group was eliminated from Star Search in 1992. Three years later, it was removed by a contract. The group's fortunes changed when they signed a Columbia recording contract , followed by an album with the same name that yielded the hit single "No, No, No Part 2." Their sequel album The Writing's on the Wall (1999) has earned the group two Grammy Awards and sold more than 8 million copies in the United States. Survivor (2001), the group's third album, reached the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
