Sarah Shahi was born Aahoo jahansouzshahi to an Iranian father and a Spanish-Iranian-born mother. She was a former NFL cheerleader as well as a descendant of a 19th-century Persian Shah. She was a student at Trinity High School and Southern Methodist University and studied opera and studied English. In her teen years, she won numerous beauty contests and won first prize in the Miss Fort Worth USA pageant in 1997. She was a cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys from 1999 to 2000. She was also on the front cover of their 2000 calendar.While working as an extra on the set of Dr. T & the Women (2000), she was introduced to director Robert Altman, who encouraged her to relocate to Hollywood to pursue a career as an actress. Shahi was the main ghost in Supernatural (2005) the CW paranormal drama. In a variety of TV shows, she played recurring roles, including Alias (2001), where she was "Jenny" and Dawson's Creek (1998), in which she played "Sadiashaw".
