Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa was born on August 1, 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is the son of Coni (Lemke) who is photographer and Joseph Momoa, a painter. His father is Native Hawaiian and Samoan, while his mother is Iowan and is of German, Irish and Native American heritage. Jason was raised by his mom in Norwalk (Iowa). After high school, Jason moved to Hawaii and was able to land a lead role, beating the competition of thousands of hopefuls on the TV series Baywatch (1989) (known as "Baywatch Hawaii" in its 10th season). After the show's end, he spent the next two years traveling the world. Then, in 2001, he moved to Los Angeles, where he continued to pursue an acting career. Following the TV series North Shore (2004) ended, he was cast in 2004 as "Ronon" Dex, a character from the TV show Stargate: Atlantis (2004). This series gained the attention of a large fan base. He played the Dothraki King in Game of Thrones (2011), an Emmy-nominated HBO series.
