James Francis Cameron CC (born August 16 1954) is a Canadian filmmaker and environmentalist. His films include science fiction and epics. The first time he was recognized was for his work on The Terminator (1984). Cameron achieved further successes with Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1989), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), and the action comedy True Lies (1994). He also directed and wrote Titanic (1997) and Avatar (2009) which was a huge success, with Titanic earning him Academy Awards in Best Picture as well as Best Director and Best Editing. Avatar film, which was shot using 3D technology, won him nominations for similar categories. In addition to filmmaking, he is an National Geographic sea explorer and has produced many documentaries on the subject including Ghosts of the Abyss (2003) and Aliens of the Deep (2005). Cameron has also contributed to underwater filming and remote vehicle technologies and contributed to the development of the digital 3D Fusion Camera System.
